Easel Card -- Sense of Time :)

 

The inspiration of this card came from a new friend I met at Convention 2009. Flying was so much easier (lol!) with Denise :)  The actual Easel Card design came from a recent Late Night Stampers swap I was in by Beate.

Here's how easy this is to make it.

Supplies:

-  one 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" card base

-  one 4-1/4" square for front of card (easel)

-  one 4" square to decorate as desired for top layer of easel (opt.)

-  one 4-1/4" x 3-1/4" to decorate for inside (or you can also use 4" x 5-1/4")

1)  Score the 4-1/4" x8-1/2" card stock at 5-1/2" and 8-1/4"

2)  Prefold score lines -- 1st fold like a normal card, then open and fold the little section towards the center (same direction as 1st fold).

3)  With card folded in half, attach the 4-1/4" square evenly to front (folded side), flush with open edge -- be careful to only adhere to the half that will be standing up.

4)  Decorate the 4" square as desired and center on the 4-1/4" square.

5)  Decorate inside as desired, using a brad, a calendar, a post-it note, a button, or anything to help have a "resting" place when card is open.

Snowman TicTac Cover Tutorial :)

Is this not just stinkin' cute!?! I found it at a Craft Show done by one of my fellow StampAttics stampers. Here's how I made mine. This would make a nice little gift all winter long.

1)  This uses the Big Pack TicTacs that run around $1.70 vs the smaller ones that run 89-99 cents. I may try the smaller ones in the next few days and give you dimensions for that size, too.

2)  Take your base color and cut a piece 5" x 3" and score at 2-1/8" from both long sides. Flip over and stamp with a background as desired.

3)  With a 1-3/8" Circle Punch, punch a circle in the bottom, right corner. Make sure to not go too far down, but stay as close to the bottom as possible.

4)  Take a piece of white card stock 1-5/8" x 1-3/4" and punch a circle with the 1" Circle Punch. With glue dots in each corner, attach to the inside of the base. Don't worry about centering your circle -- have you ever seen a perfect snowman?  Don't forget, you can click on any image on my posts to enlarge.

5)  I now take a piece of 15" ribbon and lay across the middle and attach. I use a glue dot in the center to attach and then add about two more glue dots on each side to secure.

6)  Add a strip of Sticky Strip above and below the ribbon on the side without the circles. You can now attach the TicTac container.

7)  On the front, I used a 1-1/4" circle for the snowman's head. I stamped the face and the hat with Cold Play, which is a retired set. There are just some sets that I will never "retire" from my collection. This is such a C@@L set!

8)  I then attached a small piece of Red Gingham Ribbon to his neck.

Collapsing Box Tutorial :)

I had promised this tutorial to quite a few people... finally!   Here is the tutorial that was shown at one of our many wonderful Late Night Stampers pre-Convention events. Happy Thanksgiving -- Pillow Box Basket :)

Isn't this just so stinkin' cute!?! This basket was created by one of my stampers, Karen, after coming to this month's Big Shot Club. Love it!

For directions, Download Pillowboxbasket_11-09_directions   I forgot to include in the directions... when putting paper around the outside of your basket, make sure to use Sticky Strip at least on the beginning and the ending pieces as you attach it as you need a strong tape to make sure this stays on.

Scalloped Pumpkins

Aren't these just stinkin' cute??? The pattern came from our fearless leader Julie who got them from one of her stamping buddies. I love that us stampers are so willing to share.

The largest pumpkin is made with 12 of the Scallop Circle (item 113468) die cuts and the leaf is cut with the Leaves #2 (item 113459) die. I scored each scallop with our Paper Cutter (item 104152) along with the Scoring Blade (item 104154), folded, and cut off the bottom scallop on each folded circle -- or your pumpkin will roll like a ball!

The medium pumpkins are made with 12 of the larger of the 2 scallop circles on Scallop Circle #2 (113469) die.

The smallest pumpkin is made with 9 pieces punched with the Scallop Circle Punch (item 109043). The leaves are cut using the Sweetest Stem Embosslit (item 114513). You can use your leftover scraps from your larger pumpkins to make these.

I used cinnamon sticks to make the stems -- cute and smell good too! You can use very thin strips of Old Olive card stock -- cut with my Tabletop Cutter (item 106959) and curled it around a pencil. Leaves, stems, and cinnamon sticks are attached with Mini Glue Dots (item 103683).

These are sooooooooooo very quick and easy to make and I got LOTS of ooohs and aaaahs at last weekend's Party Extravaganza vendor show in Galesburg, Il 61401. Enjoy!

Technique Tuesday: Stamped Image Embossing

What a C@@L technique! I received this card last week from our fearless leader of StampAttics of Central Illinois, Julie S.!  Isn't this so stinkin' cute???? I'm lovin' it! And best of all, besides a punch and some ink, all you need is a stylus and the foam mat from the mat pack. Woo-Hoo!

Take a 2-1/2" square of card stock vellum and stamp your image with Stazon ink. Stazon is a fast-drying, permanent ink and great for water-coloring, with little to no running of the ink.

 Turn your image over and rub different areas to emboss. It will make the embossed area white, and once it turns white, color will not show up on it if you tryo to color it.

Tuesday Technique -- poppin' Texturz plates :)

I think some of the Stampin' Up! Texturz plates do not make a very good impression on our card stock. I found this suggestion on another demonstrator's blog. It takes more pressure going through the Big Shot and is pretty scary when it snaps at the end of going through, but it does work.

For the cone, I took a piece of card stock and instead of making a normal sandwich like Sizzix suggests with the platform on Tab 1, texturz plate, card stock, texturz silicone rubber, and the texturz impressions pad.

I wasn't happy with the impression made. Then I found this on another demo's site. Take away the top texturz impressions pad (the hard one) and replace it with one of your standard cutting pads; close both tabs on your platform. Now when you run this through your Big Shot, it will take a little extra man-power to turn the crank, but it will go through and Wha-la! your card stock has a really nice impression on it!

On my cone, I used Close to Cocoa; cut to 1-1/4 x 2-1/2; flip over and mark the middle of one long end; now cut from one long end corner to this mark and repeat for the other side. Although I was finally happy with my impression, I popped it more by daubing it with some Close to Cocoa ink as well. C@@L!  I layered the 3 scoops of ice-cream and then popped them with dimensionals. I also popped the scalloped oval punch layer. Take a couple thin strips of your DSP paper, snip the ends, and you now have "ribbon" to put under the scallop oval punch layer.

Tuesday Tutorial -- Card with Bookmark :)

Ever want to send a card with a little something extra, but not really a gift? Well, this could be what you are looking for.  Here is the card/bookmark that we made at my August workshops. These corner bookmarks are quick and easy and make that little something extra that you can attach to a card.

Supplies
Stamps:  Razzle Dazzle
Paper:  Crushed Curry*, Whisper White*, Razzleberry Lemonade DSP
Ink:   Crushed Curry
Accessories:  Eyelet Border Punch, 1-2" Polka-Dot Crushed Curry Grosgrain, dimensionals
Inspiration:  Barb M who got this from Yvette

Take a 3" square and mark at 1-1/2" on 3 sides. Then score from notch to notch to form a triangle; fold these flaps down.

Use the eyelet border punch on the unscored edge. Then with a strip 1/2" longer than the punched row (I used a strip 1-1/4 x 3-1/2), punch another row with the eyelet border punch.


Then align up, attach, and trim.

I attached a strip of ribbon on the back, then connected the two triangle corners with a punch. You could use our 1" Circle Punch, which is still current, or I liked a retired butterfly punch.

Complete card as desired. I thought it was too plain without the bookmark, so I added a punched, embossed butterfly in the top corner. I also only put dimensionals on 3 of the corners of the attached layered image in the bottom left corner so I can slip my bookmark under this image.


Your recipient of this card can now enjoy their little "extra" in their favorite book!

Here's a finished card that I used a dauber to sponge around the edges of both the stamped white cards.

NOTE:  For my bottom stamped image, I cut a piece of W-White to 2-3/4 x 3 and layered it on a Crushed Curry cut 2-7/8 x 3-1/8. My ribbon was cut at 5" and trimmed on one end to a "V". The "Hope you feel better soon." is from Kind & Caring Thoughts and the "Happy Birthday" is from On Your Birthday. The butterfly is from #114507 Beautiful Butterflies and embossed with #115963 Finial Press Embossing Folder.

Word Window Pop-Up Card Tutorial :)

Here's an easy way to do a quick pop-up card as was done in my TnT Night (Tools & Technique) last Thursday... Dyn-A-Mite!!!

Recipe:
Stamps:  Animal Stories, your favorite word phrase
Paper:   Chocolate Chip CS, Old Olive CS, So Saffron CS, W-White CS, Tall Tales DSP
Inks:  Chocolate Chip
Accessories:  5/8" Jumbo Brads, Scallop Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch, Word Window Punch, Sizzix Movers & Shapers with Punch Windows

Notes:  I did not like the openness of the back of the card, so my very helpful group at TnT night came up with the idea of simply placing another 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of chocolate chip card stock to the back of the card -- this way, we could still use our Sizzix to punch the window out on the front of the card. Also, here are my cuts:  white = 2-1/8 x 1-7/8; so saffron = 2-1/4 x 2; and old olive = 2-1/2 x 2-1/4.

Razzle Dazzle Box from Box #2 Die :)

Have I mentioned lately how much I love my Big Shot!?! This is such a cute little favor box. It can hold 3x3 cards or candy or other little items you might want to give as a little gift to your friends, family, or hostesses!  This is one of the projects we are making at my New Cattie Open House! Check my calendar for upcoming dates.

Simply cut two boxes from your Sizzix Box #2 Die #114518. Cut off the little tabs on each end and just the folding tab on the lid. Since our punches are designed to punch through only one piece of card stock at a time, I made a template to punch the top of each tab of the box with our NEW! Modern Label punch #116630. I used some of our new In-Colors, Rich Razzlebery card stock #115316 for the boxes. Since the length around the entire box is 13" to wrap around the outside, I took a 1-1/2" piece of Razzleberry Lemonade DSP #115675 and put on either the back of your box or you can put it on an end. But, if you use the back of your box, you can easily cut out an embosslit (I used the Simple Flower #114514) to put on either side and it will cover up where your ends meet :)  Plus I used some of our new In-Color ribbon, #115613 Rich Razzleberry 1/2" Polka-Dot Grosgrain Ribbon, just using enough to wrap around it. By not tieing a bow or knot in your ribbon, this helps save on the amount of ribbon you will need for this project, especially if you would make this in a workshop.
