Zooming from State to State again today! You cannot beat it in a time like these! It is so good to be with others, see their smiling faces, and, of course, STAMP!!! Today we were not only in Illinois, but Iowa, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina... HOOTY-HOO!!!
I learned this technique from a Creativate Retreat and we also did another Zoom a few weeks back with the Stampin' Stray Ducklings and Sheryl D. You are using 1/2" strips of DSP and arranging them in different directions to make an awesome background. It really sets it off to also emboss the layer of strips before adhering to your card.
You start with a piece of white or vanilla card stock at 3-7/8 x 5-1/8 (or a smidgen smaller) and 10-12 strips of Designer Series Paper strips that measure 1/2" x 6-12". Completely cover one side of the card stock with adhesive -- I ran mine through my Xyron machine. Lay your first strip somewhat like I have above. You want to leave one end pretty close to the edge and the other end can hang off from your CS.
Then start layering more strips with 2-3 in one direction, then 2-3 in another direction, etc. You will need to cut off the excess as you go along and use these pieces as well. When completed, cut all excess off with scissors or your paper trimmer.
For more texture, I ran this through an embossing folder. Click the above to enlarge to see the quilted-like look. Finish card as desired.
Here's how I did the leaves to give them texture. I LOVE the Gathered Leaves dies #150662 brought back in the 2020 Holiday Mini. They cut and emboss on one pass! But to give them more dimension, you need a Stamper's Secret Weapon, which is a cushy mat for stamping with clear stamps on one side and embossing/piercing on the other side. You can also use a magazine if you have one of them laying around.
Turn your leaf over on back side; run your embossing tool along each finger of your leave, making an oval shape 2-3 rounds each.
Turn your leaf over to the front side and now press once towards the bottom of the leaf. Wha-la! You now have plenty of dimension to your leaf. Adhere with either a glue dot or a dimensional.
